Notes

Originally native to North America, these shapeshifting humanoids feature prominantly in the myths of many Native American tribes. Possibly related to Trolls and Ogres, Magadons are intelligent creatures and are capable of being reasoned with. Though originally known to prey on humans, many Magadons satisfy their need for raw flesh in less harmful ways and should not be classed as hostile without definate proof.

Magadons have little culture of their own, and survive by emulating the current culture of mankind. This social mimicry has allowed many of these creatures to become integrated into the supernatural communities of most modern cities. However, fragments of their original shamanistic religion do survive, and have shed remarkable light on the origins of many of the supernatural beasts of North American.

Magadons average between just under 7 feet tall, and are powerfully built, with broad flat faces and large hands. Though brutish in appearance, they can with effort pass as an unusually large and ugly human.

Abilities

Magadons possess the ability to assume the form and mannerisms of a trusted friend or relative, which they can use to lure a potential victim to a private place, where they can be safely devoured. Studies have shown that the taste of human flesh is addictive to these creatures, but that this addiction can be overcome. Magadons must eat raw flesh to live, but can happily survive on meats other than human.

Though this has yet to be confirmed, there is evidence that Magadons are extremely long lived, and may actually be immortal, barring accidents.

Apart from their shapeshifting ability, Magadons seem to have no other appreciable skill with the Way, though some have argued that they may possess some form of instinctual telepathic abilities.

Termination

As fully corporeal beings, Magadons may be harmed by normal weapons. However they are almost always extremely strong and powerful, and their thick skins and layers of dense muscle make them very hard to hurt. Magadons are usually skilled combatants and are at their best when fighting for their lives.

Magadons are never seen during the day, and some specialists believe that they are vulnerable to the light of the sun, while others argue that they may merely have sensitive eyes. Regardless, when faced with this cunning and deadly adversary, the wise envoy will act to take advantage of this apparent weakness.

Due to the fact that Magadons do not seem to be inherently evil and are capable of making complex moral decisions, SAVE has issued a caution to all envoys that these creatures are not to be thought hostile unless in the light of confirming evidence.

Additional Information

Though Magadons have little skill in the Way, their shamanistic religion does give their priests access to spirit magic. Magadon Shamans can converse with the dead, and can bargain with elemental spirits to perform services in return for blood and sacrifices. Using this power, the Shaman can manipulate the weather, heal sickness and injury, alter plant growth, vanish into the earth and perform other nature related "miracles",all of which can be a nasty surprise for PC envoys who think they know what they're dealing with. CM's should use their imaginations when using a Magadon Shaman, using the magic rules presented in the Chill Companion if necessary.
